Athletistic/Tennis. The press office of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has issued a statement following the decision to disqualify former world number one Simona Halep for anti-doping rule violations. The Romanian was suspended from professional sport for four years.

“It is extremely important that female tennis players know and follow the rules of the tennis anti-doping program. An independent tribunal has ruled in the Simona Halep case. This decision can be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS). The WTA will support the decisions made during this process and will continue to closely monitor what is happening,” the WTA said in an official statement.

Simona Halep has not appeared on the court since October 2022. Then her doping test taken at the 2022 US Open gave a positive result for roxadustat. The second offense committed by the 31-year-old tennis player became known in May. This stems from the discovery of inconsistencies in Halep’s biological passport.

Simona Halep is a former world number one. She has two victories at Grand Slam tournaments (Roland Garros 2018 and Wimbledon 2019). The Romanian is the winner of 25 WTA tournaments, including 24 in singles.
