Serena Williams’ cruel tweet after Halep’s penalty

The American reacted quickly to the four-year ban the Romanian received after the doping case.

After knowing the four-year ban to Simona Halep of the International Tennis Integrity Agency, it didn’t take long for reactions to emerge. One of the first is Serena William who left a tweet which does not mention the Romanian woman but undoubtedly refers to her situation.

Serena Halep

“8 is a better number”the North American tennis player wrote on his social network, which does a clear allusion to the final she lost to Halep on Wimbledon grass in 2019, which could be his eighth Grand Slam at the All England Club. In addition, he also put a heart (a symbol of approval in this social network) on the publication of Nicole Gibbs: “It’s disappointing when you find out half your heroes from your sporting days are cheating.”.

That sense for the title ended in double 6-2 for the Romanian, as he won his second Grand Slam of his career, after winning for the first time at Roland Garros last year. Both have faced each other nine times on the circuit and the balance is 7-2 for the North American.

World number one in tennis to be suspended for four years due to doping

Almost a year ago, the ITIA surprised the tennis world by announcing the appearance of Roxadustatan anti-anemia drug that increases the production of erythropoietin, in the urine of Halep. After a difficult investigation, this agency announced on Tuesday that it had been suspended for four years for non-compliance with the Tennis Anti-Doping Program.

“The court accepted Halep’s argument that they took a contaminated supplement, but determined that the amount ingested by the player could not have resulted in the concentration of roxadustat found in the positive sample.”, said the ITIA statement. The suspension of the former world number one will run from October 7, 2022 to October 6, 2026. The case remains subject to appeal by Halep herself.

Winner of 24 titles throughout his career, in 2022 he won them in Melbourne and Toronto. He won in 2018 at Roland Garros and in 2019 at Wimbledon. Last year’s US Open was the last tournament the Romanian played, losing in the first round to Ukrainian Daria Snigur 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.
