Russian world number three Daniel Medvedev announced that he will not participate in the exhibition tournament of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown series in Frankfurt am Main (Germany).
The tournament will take place from September 15 to 17. Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov will take the field in place of Medvedev. Last week, the Russian reached the final of the US Open, where he lost to Serbian Novak Djokovic in three sets.
— I would like to inform you that I will not be able to play at the UTS tournament in Frankfurt this year. The last two weeks have been very difficult for me and my body. Probably the most difficult two weeks I’ve had in my career. It’s very sad, because I really wanted to play in this tournament,” Medvedev said in a video published by the tournament’s press service.
In addition to Dimitrov, Russian Andrei Rublev, Norwegian Casper Ruud, Argentinian Diego Schwartzmann, German Jan-Lennard Struff, American Christopher Eubanks, French Gael Monfils and Benoit Paire will perform at the tournament.
