Athletistic/Tennis. Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic will not play at Wimbledon due to coronavirus infection.
“I am sad to report that I have tested positive for COVID-19. I have isolated myself and hoped to be ready for the start of the tournament, but unfortunately I still feel unwell and cannot compete. at my level. I’m looking forward to more competitions on grass next year!” – Cilic wrote in one of the social networks.
Marin Cilic was due to start at Wimbledon in the first round against American Mackenzie McDonald. The Croatian’s place will be occupied by Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges, who has already completed three qualifying stages for the Wimbledon tournament.
Borges beat Italian Matteo Arnaldi (6:3, 6:7, 6:2) and Japanese Hiroki Moriya (4:6, 6:4, 6:3), but lost to Australian Max Purcell ( 6:3, 6:7, 4:6, 6:7). Cilic’s withdrawal gave Borges a chance to return to Wimbledon. His match with Mackenzie McDonald will take place on June 28.
