The Ukrainian, paired with Elena Ostapenko, gave way to the Collins/Vandeweghe duet in a dramatic semi-final
Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmila Kichenok failed to make it to the doubles final of the WTA 500 tournament in San Diego, USA.
Paired with Elena Ostapenko from Latvia, the Ukrainian lost to local tennis players Danielle Rose Collins and Coco Vandeweghe in three sets. The meeting lasted just over an hour and a half.
The first set ended with the unconditional victory of the Ukrainian-Latvian pair – 6:2. In the second game, having quickly made a break, Kichenok and Ostapenko brought the matter to a 5:3 score, but were unable to put the pressure on their opponents. The Americans made a comeback and snatched victory – 7:5.
The decisive set developed no less dramatically. Lyudmila and Elena were on the verge of collapse with a score of 4:9, but played off five match points in a row. However, they were not enough for more – they lost 9:11.
Let us remind you that Nadezhda Kichenok, unlike her sister, managed to reach the final of her tournament (in Osaka, Japan) in doubles.
