The captain is ready to give Denis Molchanov a chance
Captain Ukrainian men’s tennis team Orest Tereshchuk spoke about what kind of players he hopes to attract to the team in the future.
“I did not negotiate with the players. There were several conversations with Alexey Krutykh already in Georgia, he expressed a desire to play for the national team. As for past matches, it’s difficult for me to evaluate, because I came to the team when there were difficult relations between the federation and some players. We agreed that I would do my job directly as a captain on the court; I was not involved in financial or any other off-court relations.”
“I know that there were negotiations with Sachk for this match, but we did not agree for various reasons. I hope that in the next match we will be able to gather the entire team that was present this time, and also add to it either Sachko or someone else who will have shown himself brightly by then. We agreed that this team should definitely survive until the next match if everyone is in good health. And if some other Ukrainian top is added, then there will be not 5 players, but 6 (one reserve).”
“Should we expect Manafov and Molchanov to join the team? As for Manafov, he cannot be expected. I told him back in Poland that if he continues to play paired with a Belarusian, no matter how good he is and what position he occupies, then I don’t see the possibility of calling him up. Now the situation is not that in Ukraine they would look at the fact that a Ukrainian athlete plays with a Russian or Belarusian. It is not right. Vladislav has his own position that this Belarusian is his childhood friend, he is for Ukraine and will donate, but this does not interest anyone. There cannot be such a picture that our flags are on the same team.”
“There is no such unambiguous position regarding Denis Molchanov. I think we’ll talk again.”
The Ukrainian national team beat Colombia in the First World Group match of the Davis Cup. Alexey Krutykh scored two victories in the confrontation, and Vladislav Orlov brought the decisive point to the blue-and-yellows.
The match between Ukraine and Colombia took place on hard courts in the Georgian city of Kaspi, which is located next to Tbilisi. Based on its results, the Ukrainian national team qualified for the final tournament of the Davis Cup.
