Kostyuk: It’s still a bit difficult for me to play at Wimbledon

Martha kicked off the tournament with a strong-willed victory over Katie Swan

Fourth racket of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk shared her impressions of her start on Wimbledon this year.

Today, in the first round match, the 20-year-old Ukrainian got a strong-willed victory over the Englishwoman Cathy Swan in three sets.

“Definitely, it was a very hard match, we were on an equal footing. Katie showed great tennis, I didn’t know until the very end if I could win, ”explained Marta.

“Grass is a difficult surface. I like to play on it. I love Wimbledon. But this is really one of the most difficult tournaments for me. Maybe in the future this will change, but for now it’s still a bit difficult for me.”

Kostyuk’s opponent in the second round will be Chinese Shuai Zhang, who occupies 41st place in the WTA world ranking.

Martha repeated her best result on the Wimbledon courts, also reaching the second round of the main draw last year.

Also, the first round of the third “Slam” of the season was overcome by Ukrainians Angelina Kalinina and Lesya Tsurenko, who will meet each other in the second round. Dayana Yastremskaya left the tournament today.
