Serena Williams says she’s motivated to play US Open after losing at Wimbledon

Former American number 1 Serena Williams said she would like to compete successfully at the US Open after losing in the first round of Wimbledon.

Williams on Tuesday in the first round of the Wimbledon tournament lost to the 115th racket in the world, France’s Armoni Tan, with a score of 5:7, 6:1, 6:7 (7:10).

— When you’re at home, especially in New York… The US Open is the first Grand Slam tournament I’ve won, it’s something special. Your first time is always special. Certainly, I have a lot of motivation to improve and play at home,” Williams told the WTA website.

According to the American, Tang turned out to be an uncomfortable rival for her. Williams returned to court in June after a year-long hiatus.

– It pushes me to go to training, because I played well and I was close to winning. Maybe any other player would suit my style better. I think if you play tournaments every week or even every three or four weeks, there is a certain rhythm to the game. Despite this, I felt that I played well in some episodes. Maybe in key moments it could have been better. If I had played regularly, I wouldn’t have missed a point or a match,” she added.

Williams also declined to answer when asked if this was the last Wimbledon of her career.

– I do not know. Like I said, I make other plans depending on how I feel,” the 40-year-old tennis player said.

The US Open will be held from August 29 to September 11 in New York.
