Two-time Grand Slam winner, former world number one Simona Halep filed a complaint against the company producing food supplements, reports Euronews Romania.
The court accepted the athlete’s defense argument that she was taking dietary supplements containing a banned substance, but found that the quantity consumed by the tennis player could not lead to the concentration of roxadustat detected in the positive sample for doping.
— We filed a lawsuit against the Canadian company more than a month and a half ago. The request can only be compensatory and has no consequences on the sporting record,” declared the Romanian’s lawyer, Bogdan Stoica.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced a four-year ban for Halep, 31. The Romanian woman was charged with two separate counts. The first involved a negative drug test result for the banned substance roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. The second charge was related to discrepancies in the athlete’s biological passport indicators. Halep had thyroid problems.
The athlete confirmed that she would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
