Last year’s Wimbledon runner-up Berrettini has withdrawn from the tournament

Italian tennis player Matteo Berretini announced on social media that he had withdrawn from Wimbledon due to the coronavirus.

“It is with a heavy heart that I am withdrawing from Wimbledon due to testing positive for COVID-19. I had flu-like symptoms and have been in isolation for the past few days. Despite symptoms not are not serious, I have decided that it is important to take another test this morning in order to protect the health and safety of my colleagues and all other tournament participants, wrote the tennis player.

The Italian’s opponent in the first round of the tournament was to be Chilean Christian Garin. Earlier, Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic withdrew from Wimbledon due to the coronavirus.

Last year, Berrettini reached the Wimbledon final, where he lost to Serbian Novak Djokovic.
