Athletistic / Tennis. Stefano Vukov, coach of the fifth racket in the world, Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina, spoke about the scandalous situation surrounding his ward’s refusal to participate in the WTA-500 tournament in Tokyo (Japan).

“I would like to clarify the situation surrounding Lena’s refusal to perform in Tokyo: there is no clear explanation of what a ‘performance bye’ is. What exactly does that mean? Do tournaments give a “bye” to help players play? Or do they simply reset the rating obtained? And no. Is the rating itself an indicator of your effectiveness?

Last year we flew to Japan two days after the final match of one of the European tournaments, but we didn’t see any “byes”. The same thing will happen between Tokyo and Beijing. In total, 4 “byes” will be awarded this year. Most players have already qualified for the WTA Finals, so why would they participate before Cancun?

The reason is that most tournaments are compulsory and tennis players are fined if they do not play. Players always pay the consequences. The system doesn’t work, the marketing is just terrible. We need transparency. All tennis players need to understand what is happening. Stop blaming players for mistakes made by your own system!” Vukov wrote on his social media page.

When establishing the table, the WTA advances not four top-ranked tennis players, but two. Instead of the third and fourth seeds, tennis players who performed well during the week before the start of a particular tournament will skip the first round. This is what angered Elena Rybakina.
