Angelina Kalinina continues performing in the capital of Japan
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk dramatically lost to Daria Kasatkina in the first round of the tournament’s main draw WTA 500 in Tokyo.
The fight lasted almost two and a half hours. The least time was spent on the first set, which the Ukrainian won with a score of 6:3.
The second game was tense, but it turned out unsuccessfully for Marta: she gave up all six games on her serve to her opponent, and in return was able to make only four breaks.
The decisive set was remembered for two extremely long rallies, which Kostyuk managed to complete in her favor. But with the score 3:3, the Ukrainian gave the 13th racket of the world two serves in a row and eventually ended her performance at the tournament in Japan.
Thus, Kasatkina equaled Kostyuk in the number of victories in head-to-head meetings 2:2. Marta beat her opponent at the US Open 2020 and repeated her success in Istanbul in 2021. Daria got her first revenge the same year in Birmingham.
Let us remind you that the second racket of Ukraine, Angelina Kalinina, continues to compete at the tournament in Tokyo. In the first round, she easily defeated American Ashlyn Kruger. On the morning of September 28, Angelina will meet Caroline Garcia from France, who is in the top 10 of the WTA rankings, in the 1/8 finals.
