Athletistic/Tennis. Fifth seed Andrey Rublev will face Cameron Norrie in the first round of the 2023 China Open.

Rublev continued to perform regularly at TBS this season, reaching the quarterfinals in three of them, with the exception of the French Open. He won the biggest title of his career, winning the Monte Carlo Masters, but did not reach the quarterfinals of any other Masters.

Rublev won the Swedish Open by defeating Kasper Ruud in the final. He also won the Madrid Open doubles title with Karen Khachanov and finished second in Dubai, Banja Luka and Halle. He had a poor performance at the Laver Cup last week, losing both doubles matches.

Norrie started the season well, but his form has declined over the last couple of months. He reached the finals in Auckland and Buenos Aires before winning his first title of the season at the Rio Open, defeating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

After exiting the Indian Wells Masters in the quarterfinals, he only won two matches in a row at the Italian Open, where he reached the fourth round. He finished his performance on clay with a third-round exit at the French Open.

Norrie then crashed out of Wimbledon in the second round and did not win a match until the US Open. He broke his four-fight losing streak and reached the third round of TBS in New York. At last week’s Zhuhai Championships, the Briton was shown the door by Aslan Karatsev in the quarter-finals.

In the personal meetings, Rublev and Norrie drew 2:2. Norrie won their last meeting at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters in straight sets.

Prediction for the match between Andrey Rublev and Cameron Norrie

Rublev had a better season than Norrie, but both have had their ups and downs this year. However, the Briton has only won three of his last 10 matches, so it’s safe to say he’s going through a tough time right now.

Norrie beat Rublev when they played earlier this season, but the slow conditions at Indian Wells favored the Briton more than the Russian. The relatively fast pace in Beijing should tip the scales in Rublev’s favor.

Rublev’s hyper-attacking shots on the ball were effectively neutralized by Norrie on several occasions. However, the Russian’s aggressive tennis is likely to give him victory again, given his opponent’s current form.

Forecast: victory for Andrey Rublev in three sets.
