Russian tennis player Veronica Kudermetova shared how she found motivation during the final match of the WTA tournament in Tokyo.
In the final, Kudermetova defeated the 4th racket in the world, American Jessica Pegula, in two sets – 7:5, 6:1. The day before, the Russian played a semi-final match against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, which lasted almost 3.5 hours.
— Jessica is an excellent tennis player and fighter, and I was preparing for a real fight. With the score at 5:5 in the first set, I said to myself, “Veronica, you just need to fight and do everything you can. » And I did it.
I’m really happy because before that, it wasn’t easy for me. Now I am happy and I have a lot of motivation for the next few weeks,” Kudermetova said, as quoted by the WTA press service.
For 26-year-old Kudermetova, the title at tournaments under the auspices of the WTA became the second in her career – the athlete had already won the tournament in Charleston in April 2021.
