Australian Open organizers made historic change to tournament schedule

The 2024 Australian Open will start on Sunday for the first time in history and will last 15 days, according to the tournament’s official website.

It is noted that the extra day at the tournament “aims to ease the burden on players and fans associated with the late completion of matches.” When making our decision, we took into account that games have recently become longer.

“We have listened to feedback from players and fans and are pleased to provide a solution to minimize delays to matches while ensuring a fair and equitable schedule.” The extra day will help achieve this goal by improving the schedule for fans and players. The first round will now be played over three days instead of two, which will also provide fans with an extra day of incredible tennis, entertainment and family fun,” said tournament director Craig Tiley.

The 2024 Australian Open will take place from January 14 to 28.
