The first Grand Slam of the 2024 season will last fifteen days to avoid a load of matches and an overschedule.
The next one The Australian Open begins on Sunday, January 14, and continues for fifteen daysone more than the previous editions, to save the players from the burden of matches and excessive schedules. The contest itself is considered “historical” this change.
“The data shows that games are now longer, so the change to a Sunday kick-off is designed to ease the pressure of the end of the night for both players and fans.”he noted when announcing the news.
The first round of matches will be spread over three days, instead of twoexplained Open director Craig Tiley. The day session on the Rod Laver and Margaret Court courts will have at least two matches, not three, to reduce the risk of finishing late. The evening session will continue to schedule at least two meetings.
In the last edition there were matches that ended after three in the morning, prompting complaints from players such as British Andy Murray.
