Athletistic/Tennis. World number three Coco Gauff will face WTA number 16 Veronica Kudermetova in the third round of the 2023 China Open on Thursday.

Gauff knocked out Ekaterina Alexandrova and advanced to the second round, where she faced Petra Martic. Both players held serve smoothly for most of the first set and a tiebreak seemed inevitable. However, Gauff broke in the 12th game and won the first set 7-5.

Gauff trailed for most of the second set, as she had to catch Martic three times after losing her serve. Then Petra broke again for the fourth time in the 11th game, held serve and won the second set, also with a score of 7-5.

The tennis players exchanged breaks at the start of the third set, then resumed their serves quite calmly. Martic took the lead by breaking in the ninth game to take a 5-4 lead, but was unable to serve for the match. Gauff then extended the set to the tiebreak, which she won to win 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (2).

Kudermetova missed the first round in Beijing after winning the Pan Pacific Open last week. In the second round she met Lesya Tsurenko. The Russian came back from a 0:2 deficit in the first set and leveled the score, but couldn’t recover from another break, costing her the set.

A rain delay interrupted the match in the second set, which helped Kudermetova, who, after the restart of play, did not lose a single game for the rest of the match and won 3-6, 6 -0, 6-0.

The match between Kudermetova and Gauff was a 1-1 draw. The American won the final meeting of the 2023 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in three sets.

Prediction for the match Coco Gauff – Veronika Kudermetova

Kudermetova and Gauff are two of the most active players on the tour. The American’s winning streak is 14 matches, while Kudermetova’s unbeaten streak is six matches. The American gave everything in the previous round and managed to defeat Martic, while Kudermetova easily took on Tsurenko after losing the first set.

Previously, Kudermetova went through several difficult weeks with early departures, but now the Russian has found her game again. She has faced Gauff twice this season.

Kudermetova beat the American in Doha and Gauff won in Stuttgart. The Russian’s precise serve and targeted ball strikes have earned her numerous victories. The American, on the other hand, is resilient and wins matches thanks to her newfound consistency. Gauff was a little passive at times against Martic, but took control of the game towards the end of the match. This could be another close match between the two and will likely go to three sets. Gauff seems more stable and is the favorite.

Prediction: Coco Gauff will win in three sets.
