Vice President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFT) Vladimir Selivanenko believes that the rivalry between Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakin and the Belarusian Arina Sabalenko will become one of the main showdowns on the WTA tour.
Rybakina defeated Sabalenka in the quarterfinals of the WTA-1000 tournament in Beijing on Friday.
“I don’t see the point in making the next match between two world ranking leaders some sort of symbolic event and looking for any special meaning in it. Today, Lena managed to serve better, make fewer doubles and convert more break points. There will be many more such matches, the rivalry between Arina and Lena will apparently be one of the main ones on the tour,” Selivanenko said, according to Vprognoze.ru.
In the semi-final of the Beijing tournament, Rybakina will face Russian Lyudmila Samsonova .
