In his opening match, he defeated Chilean Cristian Garin (98th world ranking) in straight sets with a score of 6:3, 6:3.
The match duration was 1 hour and 32 minutes. Medvdev completed seven serves, made five errors on his serve and also converted five breaks from nine break points. Garin has three aces, three double faults and two successful break points out of nine possible.
In the next round of the tournament in Shanghai, the 27-year-old Russian will meet the American Sebastian Korda (world number 26). The prize fund for the competition in China in 2023 was $8.8 million.
