In one of the central matches of the playing day, Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov (15th racket in the world) was defeated by Australian representative Alexei Popyrin (41st number in the world rankings).

The match ended in two sets with a score of 6:4, 6:2 in favor of the Australian tennis player. The players spent 1h32 on the pitch. During the match, Khachanov completed seven serves, committed three double faults and converted one break on eight break points. Popyrin had ten aces, two errors on his serve and four successful break points out of ten won.

Alexey Popyrin’s next opponent at the tournament in the Japanese capital will be Chilean Cristian Garin (world number 94). The Tokyo tournament will end on October 22. His prize fund in 2023 was $2 million.
