Cornet breaks Iga’s record winning streak
The first racket of the world Iga Schwentek left the draw Wimbledon 2022.
The representative of Poland in the third round of the competition sensationally lost to the Frenchwoman Alize Cornet. Sventek managed to win only six games in two sets – 4:6, 2:6.
This is Shventek’s first defeat since February 16, when she lost to Elena Ostapenko (6:4, 1:6, 6:7 (4)) in the second round of the tournament in Dubai. Thus, Iga failed to surpass the longest winning streak since 1990.
The Polish athlete has the longest winning streak in the 21st millennium. Iga won 37 consecutive matches and surpassed Venus Williams’ record.
Recall that on July 23 in Krakow Iga will hold a charity match in support of Ukraine. Elina Svitolina and Sergey Stakhovsky will also take part in its organization.
