Athletistic / Tennis. Russian tennis players have set a record for the number of ATP tournament finals played in a calendar year. Since January 2023, the Russians have reached the final match of the competition 17 times.
Aslan Karatsev and Pavel Kotov contributed to updating the file. Last week, the 30-year-old native of Vladikavkaz reached the final of the ATP-500 tournament in Tokyo (Japan), and the 24-year-old Kotov became the finalist of the ATP-250 tournament in Stockholm (Sweden).
Note that out of 17 finals with the participation of Russian players, eight were contested by the third racket in the world, Daniil Medvedev. Five times out of eight, Medvedev emerged victorious. Andrey Rublev (5th world ranking) has six finals and two victories. Interestingly, in one of these finals, Rublev and Medvedev faced each other. Once again, Roman Safiullin reached the deciding match of the ATP tournament.
The previous achievement of 15 ATP tournament finals dates back to 2021. That year, Medvedev won the US Open.
