Daniela Seguel: “At the beginning of the year it was a reality of tennis, but now not so much because I still enjoyed it”

The national tennis player has had a very difficult season, but she feels strong after her performance at the Pan American Games and can give new impetus to her career. Of course, he admits to financial difficulties moving forward.

Daniela Seguel ended her participation in Santiago 2023 yesterday , after falling in the second round of women’s singles tennis. After her elimination, she was very affected, but also full of hope. There was also a space to talk with Sporty on the sensations experienced this week and how this season went, during which he experienced a deep drop in the rankings.

“This will probably be my last Pan American Games. I have to wait four more years and I don’t know if my career will last another four years. That’s why it was so special to play at home,” he emphasizes with a certain sadness.

La Pantera explains what her senior year was like. “It was a complicated process. Unfortunately, I tore it up three months ago and was unemployed for a month and a half. This is only my third week playing. In that sense, I’m satisfied, because I think I competed at a very high level after only three weeks of training. I left everything. I really enjoyed being on Center Court at the National Stadium. There were a lot of people. I appreciated that and I appreciate the support. It hurts to have lost, because it was a super intense match, where I had the opportunity to extend to the third set, and maybe something would happen there. Unfortunately it didn’t happen, I’m sad because I couldn’t get the victory and enjoy it with this crowd.” he emphasizes.

Despite the defeat, the San Joaquín native hopes to reverse her situation. Notice at least a few signs. “Now we have to turn the page. I left everything I had and for the most part I competed really well, and that obviously gives me some hope as well. I don’t know how much time I will have left in tennis, but these last two years have been very complicated for me and in these last six months I have started to compete again and enjoy a tennis court, and that’s the most important thing.” said.

Uncertain future

Short-term plans are clear, but from then on everything seems a little more uncertain. “Most likely, I will play the Chicureo tournament on November 13 and then I will return to Barcelona and see if there are tournaments to play in Europe, if not, I will probably close the year and think about preparing well for next year. » and see what I can compete with. I don’t have much money either and making calendars is difficult. At the beginning of the year it was a reality to leave tennis, now perhaps less so, because in recent months I have reconnected with the pleasure and the feeling of competition. and to be able to compete on an equal footing with much higher ranked players and that makes me want to keep trying,” he admits.

Your monetary situation is difficult. He has already organized a raffle and is now preparing another thanks to the help of Gabriel Suazo, a Toulouse player. “He gave me a training jersey and shoes,” he said. And he adds: “I have no financial support, only that which is provided by the Olympic Committee and the IND. But apart from that, it’s difficult and I’m trying to save money in Europe with a lot of interclubs, tournaments for money, I’m trying to mix it up to continue competing at the professional level.
