Wimbledon organizers appeal WTA fine for Russian suspension

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) is appealing the decision of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to impose a fine for the withdrawal of Russian and Belarusian female tennis players from participation in Wimbledon. On this subject Guardian said club chief executive Sally Bolton.

Previously, the WTA fined the UK Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and AELTC $1 million. The AELTC fine for kicking Russians and Belarusians out of Wimbledon was $750,000, and the LTA fine was $250,000 for kicking them out of tournaments in Birmingham, Nottingham and Eastbourne.

— This is the subject of a dispute, we appealed. Wimbledon and LTA are separate organizations so we were fined separately, and we are looking at that separately,” Bolton said.

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the WTA have decided not to award ranking points to participants in the Wimbledon tournament in response to the suspension of athletes from Russia and Belarus.
