The playoff match will take place on November 11 – 12
Women’s captain Dutch national tennis team Alice Tamaela commented on the upcoming match against Ukrainian national team in the playoffs Billie Jean King Cup.
“The Ukrainian team is a very strong opponent. Yes, they may have arrived in Vilnius without their best tennis players, but I don’t think that these losses significantly affected the play of the Ukrainian team. They are still the favorites for this match.”
“I am incredibly sad about what is happening in Ukraine. They have not been able to return home for more than a year and a half. I can only imagine what it’s like to be in that situation. It’s horrible. I have no words. I’m glad that we can be here and play in Vilnius. This is my first time here, but the conditions are really good. Let’s enjoy what we have and be happy that we live in countries where it is safe. I wish it will soon be the same again in Ukraine.”
Let us remind you that the blue-yellow team included the second racket of Ukraine, Angelina Kalinina. Dayana Yastremskaya, Katarina Zavatskaya and sisters Nadezhda and Lyudmila Kichenok will also play for the national team.
Note that the first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina took a break after leaving the US Open-2023. It was reported that she was experiencing problems with her foot, which is why she performed at the event with an untreated injury. Svitolina has already announced her return to the Australian Open 2024.
In addition to Elina, the team does not include three other representatives of the top 5 national rankings – Lesya Tsurenko, Marta Kostyuk and Katerina Beindl.
The playoff match will take place in Vilnius on November 11-12. The match will be hosted by SEB Arena, the matches will take place on indoor hard courts. Ukraine will be the host of the confrontation with the Netherlands.
Let us remember that in April Ukraine lost to the Czech Republic (1:3) and for the second time in a row failed to make it to the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup. The winners of the playoff matches will have the opportunity to qualify for the 2024 tournament.
