Seven Belgian tennis players have been suspended for violations of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP), the tennis anti-infringement body (ITIA) announced.
The seven players – Arnaud Grasse, Arthur de Greef, Julien Dubai, Romain Barbosa, Maxime Haute, Omar Salman and Alec Witmer – were found guilty in a criminal court and subsequently agreed sanctions with the ITIA.
The sanctions against the tennis players are linked to the recently concluded criminal case against a union involved in match-fixing in Belgium. Collaboration between ITIA and Belgian authorities led to a five-year prison sentence for union leader Grigor Sargsyan.
Athletes are suspended for a period of two to four years and 10 months. They were also fined between $30,000 and $45,000.
