On Sunday, November 12, the next draw for the ATP Finals tournament in Italy will begin. For the third year in a row, the final competition of the season will take place at the Pala Alpitur Arena in Turin. Traditionally, the eight strongest tennis players on the planet will take part in the tournament, who will play in a quartet in the first stage. Unlike last year’s tournament, where an injured Carlos Alcaraz was replaced by Taylor Fritz, in this year’s tournament all tennis players who qualified through qualifying are expected to start.
For the fourth year in a row, the Russian duo Daniil Medvedev and Andrei Rublev will perform in the final. As in last year’s draw, according to the results of the draw, our tennis players were placed in the same group and will start the tournament with a head-to-head match. But it will be Monday, and today the participants of the Green Group enter the fight, where in addition to the current winner of the tournament – the Serbian Novak Djokovic, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Italian Jannik Sinner and the Dane Holger Rune will play. Note that in the Red Group, in addition to Medvedev and Rublev, will be the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and the German Alexander Zverev.
Sinner and Tsitsipas will be the first to appear on the ground today. And in the evening, Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune will face each other. The Serbian will pursue three goals at once during this tournament: defend the title, break the record for the number of victories in the final and maintain first place in the ATP ranking at the end of the season. As for the Danish tennis player, this will be his first tournament.
In personal meetings, Djokovic and Rune are evenly matched – two wins each. The young Dane, and Holger is only 20 years old, is already a tricky opponent for the most successful tennis player in history. Rune defeated Djokovic at the Paris Masters a year ago (in the final match – 3:6, 6:3, 7:5), as well as at the Rome Masters this season (6:2, 4:6, 6:2). Novak beat the Dane in 2021 at the US Open in four sets as well as at the recent Masters in the French capital, preventing Rune from reaching the semi-finals (7:5, 6:7, 6:4). The last three meetings between Djokovic and Rune were very competitive and the young Dane looked very good. It is certain that this time Holger will give the fight to the world tennis legend and it will not be easy for Novak to get a victory if he actually gets it.
