Kafelnikov does not consider Medvedev the favorite for the final ATP tournament

Olympic champion and winner of two Grand Slam tournaments Yevgeny Kafelnikov said that the Russian Daniel Medvedev is not among the main contenders for victory at the final ATP tournament in Turin.

Medvedev scored two victories in the group stage of the tournament – against compatriot Andrei Rublev and German representative Alexander Zverev – and reached the semi-finals of the tournament ahead of schedule. In the third round, Medvedev will meet Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz on Friday.

— To be honest, I didn’t expect Medvedev to reach the semi-finals so quickly. I left the group – great job! His opponents will then be Novak Djokovic or Jannik Sinner. It doesn’t matter anymore. At such a high level, it doesn’t matter who hits each other. It will be very difficult for Daniel with all of them.

Is Medvedev the tournament favorite? I do not think so. In my opinion, there are two favorites for the title: Djokovic and Sinner. Now they are more beautiful,” Kafelnikov said at the Championship.

Medvedev won the final tournament in 2020.
