Athletistic/Tennis. World number three Daniil Medvedev has surpassed the feat of former world leader, Olympic champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov. Daniil has the most victories among Russians against players from the top 10 of the ATP rankings for the calendar year.
According to Opta Ace, Medvedev’s victory over German Alexander Zverev in the 2nd round match of the group stage of the ATP Finals tournament became the 12th victory of the 27-year-old Russian over a top-10 tennis player in 2023. Thus, Daniil updated the record of Kafelnikov, who in 1994 managed to achieve 11 victories in matches with the strongest tennis players on the planet.
Note that thanks to this victory, Medvedev qualified earlier than expected for the semi-finals of the final ATP tournament in Turin. In the last match of the preliminary round, he will face world number two, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
