Mirra Andreeva made the greatest progress among Russian tennis players in 2023 – Chesnokov

Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva made the greatest progress in 2023 among his compatriots, says former world number nine Andrei Chesnokov.

16-year-old Andreeva reached the 1/8 finals of Wimbledon this season, repeating the record Maria Sharapova who was the only tennis player of the 21st century to have managed to reach this stage of the tournament at the age of 17.

“Among our girls, Mirra Andreeva has made the biggest rise and progress this year. She started the season with a defeat at the Junior Slam in Australia. And now she is already playing with all her strength on the WTA adult tour. Next season, she will be a difficult opponent for everyone without exception. Mirra has every chance of climbing even higher in the rankings. There have been girls in the history of tennis who showed excellent results during such an early comeback. We expect Mirra to continue to progress,” Chesnokov said, as quoted by RB Sport.

Andreeva is ranked 46th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.
