Russian women Anastasia Pavliuchenkova , Mirra Andreeva , Elina Avanesian , Diane Schneider And Vera Zvonareva nominated for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) award, according to the official WTA website.
Andreeva, Avanesyan and Schneider were among the nominees for the Best Newcomer of the Year award.
Last season, Andreeva reached the 1/8 finals of Wimbledon, repeating the record of Maria Sharapova, who was the only tennis player of the 21st century who managed to reach this stage of the tournament at the age of 17. Andreeva also reached the third round of Roland Garros. She started the season at 405th place in the world rankings, the tennis player now occupies 57th position. Schneider rose from 182nd to 65th place, Avanesyan – from 134th to 74th.
Pavlyuchenkova was nominated for the Comeback of the Year award. The Russian reached the quarter-finals of Roland Garros. Previously, Pavlyuchenkova did not participate in tournaments for eight months due to injury.
Zvonareva and German Laura Siegemund were among the contenders for the “Couple of the Year” nomination. During the 2023 season, Zvonareva and Siegemund won four WTA doubles tournaments, including the final.
