Tennis player Kirios will go on trial in August for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend

Winner of the Australian Open in doubles Nick Kirios summoned to appear in Canberra District Court for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, according to The Canberra Times.

“Police can confirm that a 27-year-old man, Watson, is due in court on August 2 for assault in connection with an incident that occurred in December 2021,” the statement read.

Kirios’ attorney has confirmed that he and his client are aware of the charges, which carry up to two years in prison.

“It’s about family relationships. The nature of the accusation is serious and Kyrgios takes it very seriously. Considering the matter is pending in court…at this stage he has no comment, but we will issue a press release at the appropriate time,” the lawyer said.

Kyrios reached the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon tournament on Monday, where he will play with Chilean Christian Garin.
