Nadal on Wimbledon withdrawal: ‘The injury can only get worse’

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal said he decided to withdraw from Wimbledon so as not to aggravate the injury.

After the quarterfinal match with American Taylor Fritz, the tennis player said he could refuse to continue the fight due to problems with his abdominal muscles. However, 36-year-old Nadal went on to win. In the semi-finals of Wimbledon, the Spaniard had to face the Australian Nick Kyrios.

– I was tormented by pains in the abdomen, there was muscle rupture. I made this decision because I don’t think I can win two matches under these circumstances. Not only can I not serve at the right speed, but I also cannot make normal movements when serving. There is a high chance of making things worse.

I hope that in three or four weeks I can achieve my usual plan, and in a week I can play on the back line without serving. It’s a positive moment, – quotes Nadal website Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

Kyrios reached the Wimbledon final for the first time in his career.
