Representative of Germany Alexander Zverev included in the list of contenders for the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) award in the “Comeback of the Year” category, the press service of the organization reports.
Zverev’s competitors in the fight for the prize will be Frenchman Gaël Monfils, as well as his compatriots Jan-Lennard Struff and Dominik Kepfer. The award is given to a player who returns to the court after a serious injury and re-establishes his position among the best players on the ATP Tour.
Zverev injured his ankle during the Roland Garros 2022 semi-final against Spaniard Rafael Nadal and returned to performance earlier this year. Last season, the 26-year-old German won tournaments in Chengdu and Hamburg, China.
Nominated for other ATP awards:
best coach – Craig Boynton (in collaboration with Hubert Hurkac), Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi (Jannik Sinner), Juan Carlos Ferrero (Carlos Alcaraz), Goran Ivanisevic (Novak Djokovic), Brian Shelton (Ben Shelton);
Most Improved Player – Matteo Arnaldi, Christopher Eubanks, Shelton, Sinner;
Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship and Fair Play Award – Alcaraz, Grigor Dimitrov, Hurkacz, Sinner
The Russians were not on the list of prize contenders.
