“In St. Petersburg, tennis connoisseurs applaud not only for the winners, but also for the beautiful game of their opponents” – Alexander Medvedev

General Director of the Northern Palmyra Trophies tournament Alexander Medvedev told that such competitions are successful not only thanks to the organizers, but also thanks to the spectators, and St. Petersburg fans know how to appreciate tennis.

The Northern Palmyra Trophies tournament will take place from December 1 to 3 on the courts of the Arena sports and concert complex in St. Petersburg. Athletes from Russia, Kazakhstan, Spain, Serbia, France, Italy and Bulgaria will take part in the team competitions.

— The main expectations of the Northern Palmyra Trophy tournament are beautiful tennis and a large number of spectators in the stands. I’m sure they miss world-class tennis. This characterization is not an exaggeration. The men and women of both teams are very strong and progressive players. They won the ATP and WTA tournaments and reached high places in the Grand Slam tournaments. All the guys have their own style of play, so it will be very interesting tennis.

But tournaments are carried out not only by the organizers, but also by the spectators. The more, the better. And in St. Petersburg there are very good tennis connoisseurs who applaud not only when someone wins, but also when an opponent demonstrates a beautiful game.

— Can the new tournament format make the tournament even more interesting?

– Yes, because no one knows how the team fight will go. And it is no coincidence that an 11th match is considered if the score is tied. In other words, the winner will definitely be determined.

— Is there a prize pool at the tournament?

– It’s not there, but there is a precious prize: jewelry. But the players, of course, do not bear any arrival and accommodation costs,” Medvedev told .

The first Northern Palmyra Trophies tournament took place last year.
