Russian Olympic bronze medalist in tennis Vera Zvonareva explained how long she plans to continue playing at the professional level.
Zvonareva is 39 years old. The Russian has 12 titles in WTA tournaments in singles and 16 in doubles. She has won three Grand Slam tournaments in pairs and reached the final twice in singles.
“I love playing tennis, it’s been with me all my life.” And I like to perform as long as my schedule allows: between family and theater. I managed. But every year it becomes more and more difficult because of family. There were hurts and breakups as I spent more time with my family. Then she came back. But I can’t yet predict how long I will play: I play from week to week. When I realize I need to spend more time with my family, I take a break.
I’m not at the age anymore where I have to play all the time. When you’re 18 and just starting out on the professional circuit, you have obligations and you feel the pressure of having to constantly perform. I don’t have that, I just play for fun,” Zvonareva said at the Championship.
