Athletistic/Tennis. We learned of the registration of the women’s singles at the 2024 Australian Open. The first Grand Slam tournament of next season will be held from January 14 to 28 in Melbourne.

The announced list of participants for the Australian Open included 11 Russian tennis players. Mirra Andreeva, Lyudmila Samsonova, Daria Kasatkina, Veronika Kudermetova, Anastasia Potapova, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Anna Blinkova, Anna Kalinskaya, Elina Avanesyan, as well as Diana Schneider are expected to participate in the Australian Major. Interestingly, another Russian, Kamilla Rakhimova, is number two on the reserve list.

Note that Varvara Gracheva is also registered for the Australian Open. Until May 2023, she competed for Russia, but now represents France.

The seeded list is led by the leader of women’s world tennis, Iga Swiatek. According to the protected classification (actually a wild card), the Japanese Naomi Osaka and the German Angelique Kerber are expected to perform in Melbourne. The current winner of the Australian Open is Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
