Rafael Nadal starts saying goodbye to tennis in 2024: ‘There’s a good chance this will be my last year’

The tennis player published a video in which he confesses his feelings for next season and where he recognizes that there is still a lot of uncertainty about his physical response on the court.

Rafael Nadal is excited about his return to tennis after almost a year without playing following surgery on the iliopsoas of his left leg and hip. However, this also raises a big question about its future, since He is not yet sure how he will meet the demands of his debut at the ATP 250 in Brisbane, starting on December 31.

“There’s a good chance this will be my last year without a doubt. Chances are it’s only six months, chances are it’s all year, and chances are we won’t be able to tackle all of that. These are things that I do not have the capacity to answer at the moment and I can only say that I am competing again,” he expressed in a video that he published on his social networks.

The former world number one and current 664th in the ranking generates uncertainty in his statements. “I think it will be like this. I don’t want to announce it as such, because in the end we don’t know what can happen, and we must always give ourselves the opportunity and don’t say something that can later be a slave to what you said. I can’t be one hundred percent sure. If things and my physical condition allow me to move forward and enjoy what I do, why am I going to set a deadline? I think it doesn’t make sense,” he added.

A final on the field

The winner of 22 Grand Slam tournaments, who will be 38 in 2024, says he deserves to finish his career on court, despite moments of doubt. “I fought and maintained my enthusiasm at all times. I think I had the right people around me, as I always had throughout my career, family, team, friends. Everyone helped me decisively to get to where I am today, which is to say with the possibility of competing again. Also, the desire of people who want to see me play has had a very big impact in my daily life in one way or another,” he said.

The manacorí’s last match took place on January 18 of this year at the Australian Open when he fell to American Mackenzie McDonald in the second round.
