Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios announced he would miss the 2024 Australian Open.
The first Grand Slam tournament of the season will take place in Melbourne from January 14 to 28.
“I had a very difficult year with injuries, I had knee surgery and came back too early which set me back a bit, and I also had some wrist problems. It’s very sad. I have so many incredible memories and I just want to get back to playing at the highest level. I need a little more time.
Even if I don’t participate in the Australian Open this year, I will still be there to commentate on the matches,” Kyrgios, 28, is quoted in The Age.
Kyrgios played one match last season, losing in the first round of the tournament in Stuttgart in June. The Australian reached the Wimbledon final in 2022, where he lost to Serbian Novak Djokovic in four games, and also won the Australian Open in doubles.
Kyrgios’ highest position in the ATP rankings was 13th in 2016.
