Tennis Hall of Famer Chris Evert said she was diagnosed with cancer again.
“Two years ago I was first diagnosed with cancer and I have spoken openly about my experience ever since. I wanted to tell you the latest news: my cancer has returned.
Even though I didn’t want to hear that diagnosis again, I was still fortunate that it was diagnosed early – thanks to Positron Emission Tomography. Last week I had another robotic surgery. Doctors discovered cancer cells in the same pelvic area. All the cells were removed and I started another round of chemotherapy.
I won’t be able to be with my ESPN colleagues at the Australian Open in Melbourne next month, but I will be ready for the rest of the Grand Slams this season.
I encourage everyone to research their family health history and protect themselves. Early diagnosis saves lives. Be grateful for your health this holiday season,” Evert said as quoted by ESPN.
In December 2021, Evert was first diagnosed with early-stage ovarian cancer. In January 2023, the woman announced that she had been cured of cancer.
The American has won the French Open a record seven times, and she has also won the Australian Open twice, Wimbledon three times and the US Open six times. Evert is now 68 years old.
