Athletistic/Tennis. Four-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek of Poland explained why she stopped wearing a yellow-blue ribbon on her clothes. For a year and a half, she wore it to support Ukraine.
“This ribbon helped me a lot at the very beginning, when I wanted to show that I am consistent in relation to the memory of Ukrainians and what is happening, because the public’s memory is still short. However, recently there is got a lot of hate and a lot of comments in which people just condemned and humiliated me. I started reading and hearing that with this tape I stopped being Polish.
It seems to me that all this began to cause more negative emotions than positive ones. That’s why my team and I decided that tape was no longer the best idea. However, I still intend to support Ukraine and I think that is the most important thing,” Swiatek said as quoted by Super Express Sport.
As of 2023, Iga Swiatek has won six WTA titles. She achieved victories at Roland Garros, as well as the WTA Finals tournament in Cancun, Mexico.
