Athletistic / Tennis. The leader of the ATP ranking, the legendary Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, recalled the story of his exclusion from participation in the Australian Open in 2022. Novak was later expelled from Australia due to his refusal to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
“Then I was declared the world’s main villain. In fact, most of the world was against me. But I had a similar experience in the field before, when the public didn’t support me, but it was the first time. It happened to me. I was not against vaccination, but I was only defending freedom of choice,” Djokovic said on CBS News.
On 14 January 2022, Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke canceled Djokovic’s visa for the second time in as many days. The reason was the Serbian tennis player’s lack of vaccination against the coronavirus. It should be noted that Novak was given a medical exemption from vaccination, as he had recently recovered from Covid. However, this did not influence the decision of the Australian authorities, who ultimately deported the tennis legend to his native country.
Note that the Australian authorities have stated that they currently see no obstacle to Djokovic’s arrival in their country in 2023. As a result, it was Novak who won the Australian Open last season.
