Recall that Russian and Belarusian tennis players were suspended by Wimbledon organizers from participating in the tournament due to military events in Ukraine. At the same time, rumors swirled that the decision was initiated by members of the British royal family, fearing that the world’s top racket, Russian Daniil Medvedev, could most likely win the men’s tournament. According to tradition, the trophy is awarded to the winners of Wimbledon only by representatives of the royal family, who would have seen reputational risks if, in the current political situation, one of them had to put the trophy in the hands of ‘a Russian.
