Marta Kostyuk did not want to go to court against the representative of the aggressor country, Mirra Andreeva.

Marta Kostyuk refused to play against Russian Mirra Andreeva in an exhibition tournament in France. According to the organizers of the Négométal Open de Bourg-de-Péage competition, the reason is the “geopolitical context in Ukraine.”

The Ukrainian does not want to share the court with a representative of the aggressor country. “For reasons beyond our control, and given the geopolitical context in Ukraine, Marta Kostyuk will not be able to compete in the final,” organizers said in a statement.

Earlier, Kostyuk explained that “the organizers are looking for an immediate replacement for Donna Vekic and have offered good conditions, thanks to which I will have the opportunity to make a great donation for our protectors.”

Finally, French tennis player Yanis Ghazouani Duran, ranked ninth in the ATP rankings, came out to play against Andreeva. He easily defeated the Russian in two sets 7:5, 6:2.

We remind you that Elina Svitolina previously received the prestigious WTA award.
