Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas paid tribute to the memory of his grandfather, the 1956 Olympic football champion in the USSR national team, Sergei Salnikov.
— I want to honor the immortal legacy of Sergei Salnikov. His footprints on the pitch tell a story of tenacity, glory and good play,” Tsitsipas wrote on social media.
Salnikov has previously played for Spartak and Dynamo Moscow, as well as Zenit Saint Petersburg. He is a three-time USSR champion (1954, 1956, 1958) and five-time winner of the National Cup (1944, 1946, 1947, 1953, 1958). Salnikov died on May 9, 1984 at the age of 58.
