Fernando Vicente, coach of the Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev said that an athlete must change his way of thinking during matches in order to win a Grand Slam tournament.
Rublev has 14 victories in ATP tournaments. The 26-year-old Russian has reached the quarter-finals of every Grand Slam tournament.
– What does he need to win the Grand Slam tournament? If you could name three things you would improve that he needs, what would they be?
– I will say two things. Like I said, a state of mind. It should be, “I’m ready, I’m going to work, and I’m going to be ready to do this.” » You need to avoid “I want to win” stress. Because everyone wants to reach the quarter-finals, the semi-finals. But you need to save energy: stress means you’re thinking about the future, right? You want to know what’s going to happen so you can control those things. And things will happen because I work properly. You have to believe in it, then be humble and understand that everyone is doing the same job,” Vicente said, as quoted by Tennis Majors.
Rublev is fifth in the world rankings.
