Athletistic/Tennis. Serbian tennis world number one Novak Djokovic was recognized as the best athlete of the year by European news agencies, organized by the Polish Press Agency (PAP). This prize was awarded for the 66th time in history.
In the vote, Djokovic left behind the three-time Formula 1 world champion, the Dutchman Max Verstappen, as well as the Olympic pole vault champion, the Swede Armand Duplantis. They are the ones who climbed into the top 3 of the ranking.
Note that Novak Djokovic wins this vote for the fifth time. Previously, the Serbian was recognized as the best in 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2021. In 2022, Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek won the vote.
Vote for the title of best athlete of the year according to PAP:
- Novak Djokovic (Serbia, tennis) – 178 points;
- Max Verstappen (Netherlands, Formula 1) – 150;
- Armand Duplantis (Sweden, athletics) – 86.
Last season, Novak won three Grand Slam tournaments (Australian Open, Roland Garros and US Open), reached the final of the fourth (Wimbledon) and also won the WTA final tournament trophy in Turin (Italy).
