Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic became the owner of the award for the best athlete in Europe, awarded based on the results of voting by news agencies.
Representatives of 21 publications took part in the survey organized by the Polish agency PAP. Djokovic scored 178 points. Second place was taken by the three-time Formula 1 champion, Dutch driver Max Verstappen (150 points), the top three was closed by the world record holder in pole vaulting, Swede Armand Duplantis (86 points ).
The top 5 also included Manchester City’s Norwegian footballer Erling Haaland (80 points) and NBA Denver Nuggets’ Serbian center Nikola Jokic (74 points).
Djokovic has won seven tournaments in 2023, including the Australian Open, French Open and US Open.
