President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFT) Shamil Tarpishchev in a conversation with , he called information about the possible exclusion of Russian tennis players from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris stupidity and speculation.
Previously, an expert from the show “There is a topic!” on the channel, Andrei Mitkov wrote on the Telegram channel that Russian tennis players will not be able to perform at the Games in the French capital even in neutral status, since according to the qualification conditions, a tennis player must be part of the country’s national team for the Davis Cup or Billie Jean King Cup at least twice during the Olympic cycle, with one of those occasions taking place in 2023 or 2024. The International Tennis Federation (ITF), at exceptional title, may authorize a tennis player who has not fulfilled the conditions to participate in team tournaments at the Olympic Games.
– This is stupidity and speculation. There is no need to invent anything and do anything stupid. Today, we fully deserve to participate in the Olympic Games. I advise those who propose something about our team not to indulge in nonsense,” Tarpishchev told .
The Russian men’s and women’s national teams won the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup in 2021.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
