Djokovic won’t vaccinate against coronavirus to go to US Open

Serb hopes US will make exception for him

Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic said he hoped to play US Openbut he does not intend to be vaccinated against the coronavirus in order to qualify for entry into USA.

“At the moment, given my situation, I cannot go to America. They don’t let me in. I hope for positive news, although there is less and less time left to decide everything. Hope dies last”.

“I would love to play at the US Open, this is the Grand Slam, this is what inspires me the most. If it doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world. This is not the first Grand Slam that I will miss. It is very important for me to keep my body and spirit healthy, because then I will be able to play for a long, long time.”

The US Open is scheduled to start on August 29th.

Recall that Djokovic has already missed the Australian Open this year due to his refusal to vaccinate against covid.

Djokovic won Wimbledon 2022 last week. In the final match, Novak defeated Australian Nick Kyrgios in four sets.

Note that Novak won Wimbledon for the fourth year in a row. Also, the triumph was for the Serbian 21st among the Grand Slam tournaments, thanks to which Djokovic bypassed Roger Federer (20) and approached Rafael Nadal (22).
